While you’ll probably never see me in a pair of Nike Free’s with anything other than work-out clothes (it’s just not my look), I do love some aspects of the norm-core/sport-chic trend that’s created a frenzy in street style fashion. One of these aspects? The baseball cap. I used to not think of myself as a hat person, but lately I’ve become more daring with this particular accessory. I picked up this leather one at J.Crew right before fashion week and it’s been a pretty easy topper for days when I just don’t want to spend a lot of time doing my hair (which is a lot of days). It adds a hint of cool without much effort, which I’m all about. Because I’ve gotten so much use out of this one, I’m on the hunt for another in a more basic shade (black or nude, perhaps?). I also love the idea of a wool cap – another fabric fabulous for fall. If you’re looking for a more menswear-inspired cap, this pinstripe cap and this colorblock hat are both great and inexpensive. I’ll be taking a few hats on my London trip, considering the amount of rain it always gets – stay tuned for more ways to style these sporty chic accessories!
PS – I just picked up two new pairs of jeans from James Jeans, and I’m convinced they were made just for me. They fit like a glove and are so flattering! The pair you see here is called the High Class Coated Skinny. High waisted, coated and black? Done and done. Shop them here.
Shirt: Theory, Denim: James Jeans, Bag: Alexander Wang, Shoes: Aquazzura, Hat: J.Crew, Sunglasses: Triwa, Earrings: Rue Gembon, Ring: Ippolita, Nails: OPI in Nein Nein Nein OK Fine!
I was just about to say these jeans were made for you, such a great fit.
I have been spying this cap for a while and I really love how you styled it! It is beautiful with the leather detail and is perfect with your fair skin!
That bag…serious swoon!
You can totally pull-off a baseball cap, the only place this type of hat would serve me is when working out. I agree with you on the sneaks, love how you dressed it up with a pair of killer heals:)
Okay this is totally the kind of sport chic I can get behind! Love this!

You look so cute and I really, really need those shoes I think!
Love this look, especially since I’m a cap girl. I throw one on at least once a week. Anyway, you great! PS, it totally slipped my mind that you had the Emma/BaubleBar necklace on for Mondays post. I think the necklace is awesome, so colorful and fun.
Merritt, you look so cute and sporty! Love this look. :)

I am LOVING the sporty chic trend. I feel so silly trying it out though! Any tips to ease into it? http://meowemily.blogspot.com/
LOVE the heels too. It adds a pop of color, has a velvety texture, and has a unique design. Definitely sporty chic.
Sporty chic is right!! Love how you styled this look! Classic, youthful and edgy all at once!
is the sizing true to size?
for the jeans? Yes! And they’re stretchy.

Merritt, that merlot color (or is it oxblood or burgundy or maroon…who knows!) looks amazing with your skin tone. Last year, I purchased a black leather baseball cap from ASOS, and I wear it constantly. I believe it’s still available if that’s what you had in mind by a black version. Also, your hair is making me majorly envious. I’m going to grow mine out starting now!
Love this outfit!
This look is really well put together and amazing. I especially love the bag.
I love how you managed to keep the casual sporty look so elegant! I am totally in love with your heels!
Love the burgundy accents – absolutely my favorite color this fall, can’t wait to incorporate more of it into my outfits!
