For those of you based in the hotter climates of the world (I’m talking to you, TEXAS!), it’s often tough to dress for the season since the weather doesn’t always match up with the current month. As I’m sure most of you have figured out, it stays hot in Texas up until mid-to-late October. Clearly, not the ideal situation when you’re wanting to wear all your new fall finds as soon as possible (or in my case, right now)!
If you’re like me and have no delayed gratification, it’s smart to locate pieces that make dressing for the season (even in those hot temps) bearable and easy. While you’ll likely have to wait to don your favorite chunky knit sweater, you can dress the part sooner if you have some of these key transitional items:
1. A sleeveless turtleneck. While the turtleneck style is not for everyone (I LOVE IT, but have a few friends who despise this look), a light turtleneck top sans sleeves can be the perfect day to night piece for transitioning from summer to fall. It’s flattering and appropriate for the office, and has that fall look without the heavy weight and sleeves a regular sweater would bring to the table.
2. Nude pumps. These shoes can be worn year round, but are especially useful this time of year when tying fall color schemes into lighter, more weather-appropriate styles. This pair by Kate Spade is a new favorite. They have a little grey in them, giving them a cool-toned look, versus the more warm beige nudes you often find in spring/summer pairs.
3. Animal prints. There’s nothing like a little leopard or cheetah print to get me in the fall mood! Find a piece that’s lightweight and airy, like this leopard dot poplin skirt or this layered silk tank and pair with basic black items already in your closet. Or you could just flaunt it with these sassy leopard-print pumps. So fun!

While I love the fall, it can be a tricky transition to go from bright summer hues to more neutral colors..especially when there is still lots of summer heat. Love your skirt!
