Best Strapless Bras | The Style Scribe

Before the off-the-shoulder look became a big deal a little over a year ago, I honestly tried not to buy things where I’d need to go braless or wear a strapless bra. As someone who’s a bit top-heavy, I’ve had the hardest time finding a strapless bra that fits, is comfortable, lays flat and stays up. I can’t be the only person who’s struggled with this issue!

First I tried stretchy bandeau bras – these are great for if you only need minimal support and don’t mind going without an underwire. They are very soft and comfortable, but because I’m busty, this did NOT work for me for very long. I then ordered a few online that I thought might fit – I chose the same bra brand I usually wear, Simone Perele, in the same size I get my regular bras. Apparently that’s not how you’re supposed to do it! The strapless version in the same size never fit me!

Before my Miami trip I finally gave up on my online attempts to find a strapless bra, and decided to pop into Nordstrom. Those who know me know I’m not a shy gal when it comes to meeting new people, striking up a conversation, etc, but I AM shy when it comes to getting dressed. I’ve just never been a fan of dressing and changing in front of other people, even family or friends!

Anywho, while perusing my options in Nordstrom’s lingerie section, an associate came up to me to offer help. I told her my predicament and she offered to fit me so we could find the right size. Being the bashful person I am, I was hesitant, but she made me feel at ease and totally comfortable. She had me try on this Wacoal Convertible Strapless Bra and I almost died when I saw the cup size she brought me – I actually said “there’s no way that’s going to fit me”! What I found out was a total surprise – apparently you’re supposed to size up a cup size or two in a strapless bra from your regular bras in order to get that seamless, flattering fit.

I have to admit, the large cup size of my new strapless bra still makes me laugh, but it is the PERFECT fit! It’s now the only strapless bra I wear. If you haven’t already gotten fitted for the correct size, I highly recommend taking a trip to your local Nordstrom store. In the meantime, here are a few other strapless bras worth a peek:

  • I’m loving the smooth lines on this bra by Felina – looks like it would look great under even the thinnest fabrics!
  • Who knew Betsey Johnson designed intimates? This strapless bra is simple and pretty.
  • This bra is just for girls with D-cups and up. The side bands are thicker, helping with support and keeping lines smooth.
  • Silicone-free banding and convertible straps make this bra a unique and versatile choice!
  • If you want your strapless bra to be well-fitting and still maintain some sex appeal, try this Natori bra with a lace-trimmed band.
