I’ve never really been a fan of denim jackets. More often than not, they look too small on my tall frame. I also hate bulky, stiff denim fabric, especially if I’m wearing it up top. It just doesn’t do my top-heavy figure any favors. I don’t find they are very comfortable either! I understand why people wear them – effortless, like jeans, they are the perfect neutral topper to any outfit. I just had yet to find one that looked good on me.
On my trip to GAP a few weeks ago, I found this utility jacket. It’s not the typical style you see in denim jackets, but that’s what I like about it. It’s longer than most out there, comes with four real pockets, and also features a hidden drawstring for cinching in your waist a little more. This jacket is wayyy more my speed. It fits pretty large, so I would go down a size. I’m wearing the small here.
I wore it on the plane to and from Hawaii to keep me cozy throughout the flight. It’s just perfect for those days and nights when you need a simple extra layer!
Jacket: GAP, Tee: Zadig & Voltaire, Jeans: James Jeans, Bag: from Argentina (similar style here), Shoes: Stuart Weitzman, Diamond Earrings, Ring: Ippolita, Nails: Vinylux in Cream Puff
I have this jacket as well such a good one, love these sandals.

I really really love these photos, Merritt! And I also enjoyed reading your thoughts on denim jackets. It’s not easy being tall. ;)

Merritt! I love this look. The white skinnys and those ah-mazing SW heels are a striking combo. I really love that pairing so much.
I have extremely broad shoulders and I often stress over how certain jackets & cardis come off in photos too. You mentioned that you struggle with that sometimes and I have never ever looked at your photos and saw that. Isn’t it amazing how we cut ourselves no slack at all. things we obsess over on ourselves, others are not even noticing.
