As promised, here are some of my photos from our visit to Ketchikan, Alaska! It’s a small fishing village, so as you can imagine there are a ton of boats and GREAT seafood. Here are a few recommendations if you are planning a trip to Alaska or hopping on the Celebrity Solstice soon…

Where To Eat

The Alaska Fish House – Allison and I decided to stop in for lunch at this spot, which just so happens to be right next to the Lumberjack Show! There’s usually always a line, but it’s worth the wait. I ordered the fried halibut fish & chips, and Allison ordered the grilled salmon sandwich. Both were delicious!

Bar Harbor Restaurant – another great spot for fresh seafood with a lot of flavor! We didn’t make it to this spot, but all the Yelp reviews are VERY promising!

Cape Fox Lodge – for a more elevated lunch (figuratively and literally), take the little lift up to Cape Fox Lodge. Here you’ll find an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu featuring everything from soups and Caesar salads to burgers and fish tacos. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to break away from the tourist crowds!

SweetJoy Waffles – After grabbing lunch, stop in for dessert at SweetJoy Waffles. It’s nothing fancy, but super yummy and will satisfy that sweet craving. I suggest ordering the plain waffle with nutella – YUM.

Things To Do

Tongass National Forest – take a hike, ride some horses, get up close and personal with nature (bears, for example), at Tongass National Forest. There are dozens of trails and hundreds of things you can do while exploring this massive piece of land – you don’t have to restrict yourself with an cruise-ship excursion! Just do your research before you leave!

Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary – if nature/wildlife viewing is of interest to you but you’re not interested in doing the planning yourself, take one of the tours at the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary! Some of the animals you’ll likely spot include bears, deer, wolves, bald eagles and more. Bring your camera!

Go Fishing – when I was in Alaska back in 2010, we got suited up and went fishing! It was a very cold and rainy ride out into the ocean, but we caught a lot and got to eat it all! Definitely layer up if you’re planning on doing this. There are a number of fishing charters in Ketchikan, so do your research to find the best one!
