five lip looks to try this season

Vampy Lipstick Look | The Style Scribe

If you followed the beauty looks on the runway for fall/winter 2016, you’ll know the vamp look is back! It’s one I’ve always wanted to try, but was afraid to considering how naturally pale I am. I’m not brave enough to sport a totally black lip look (and definitely not cool enough to pull it off!), but I can definitely get on board with a moody, dark red or plum color. I love this lipstick in Fast Ride, because it’s slightly sheer and shiny. Matte lipsticks in this dark of a shade can sometimes look too intense and feel overpowering.

Holiday Shimmer Lip Look | The Style Scribe

If you’re focusing on your eyes this holiday season with a smokey eye or cool cat-eye liner, you may want to downplay your lips. Opt for a pretty pink lipstick (love this sparkly one called Ian!) and top with a gold-flecked gloss like this one by NARS in Spring Break. It’s still festive, without taking away from your eye makeup. It’s also a great everyday neutral lip for the work week.

Berry Lipstick | The Style Scribe

I love sporting jewel tones this time of year, don’t you? While I likely won’t be sprinkling bottle green or sapphire blue on my eyelids, a berry lip is an easy way to add a rich and fun pop of color to your look. A tried and true favorite of mine is Violet Fatale by Tom Ford. I’ve had it for years! It’s a no-fail way to brighten up my face and make my lips POP!

Dark Nude Lip | The Style Scribe

I discovered this lipstick in Inconspicuous thanks to Lancome, who sends me goodies every now and then! I’ve gotta be honest – this color is not one I would normally choose for myself if I saw it in store or online. I generally don’t do well with warmer toned lip colors, and try to avoid browns, tans and other colors with warm or orange undertones. When I applied this lipstick for the first time though, I was pleasantly surprised and might just be changing my tune. This dark nude lipstick edges on brown, and looks gorgeous with all of the camel and cognac pieces in my wardrobe! I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone with this one. It’s a new favorite neutral lipstick for fall!

Holiday Red Lipstick | The Style Scribe

There’s nothing like a punchy red lip to get you in the holiday season, am I right? I have dozens of lipsticks of the red variety in my makeup drawer, but none rival the Christmas-red shade of the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Rita. The formula in this lipstick is very creamy, opaque and highly pigmented: all the ingredients needed to deliver the perfect red pucker.
