Today I’m actually on my way back home from my adventure with Jess, so I thought it would be appropriate to finally start sharing the photos from our time away! Here is a look at what we did our first day exploring Tokyo. If you missed my snaps, my flight from Dallas ended up getting delayed by three hours, so my flight didn’t actually land until 8pm local time. It took about 45 minutes to travel via taxi from Narita International Airport to our AirBnB in Ginza, so we just decided to get unpacked, settled and run down the street to 7-11 to pick up some bottled water, cold-brew coffee and snacks for the apartment. We went to bed around 11:15pm, and woke up bright and early at 6am naturally due to jet lag/the time zone at home. I actually woke up at 2:55am thinking it was later than it actually was, went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth before realizing my mistake and hopped back in bed. Luckily I was able to fall back asleep for a few hours!

We had originally planned to start our day a bit later since we weren’t sure how we’d feel with the time difference, so we changed some things around. We visited the Imperial Palace Gardens right when it opened at 9am, which took about an hour and a half to do the whole thing. Having not researched it properly beforehand, I didn’t realize we needed to apply weeks in advance to visit the actual Imperial Palace, so we ended up skipping that part. After finishing up at the Palace Gardens, we walked back into Ginza to the Gucci flagship store to check out the Gucci Four Rooms art installation they have going on (open until the 27th of this month!!). We got there right when it opened and I’m so glad we did – we got so many amazing photos! I’ll be doing a totally separate post with those in a few days, so keep an eye out!

After Gucci Four Rooms, we grabbed lunch at Ochi Kochi. It was about a 30 minute wait, but it was the coziest little lunch spot! We were starving, so we ordered the deep fried oysters + miso soup to start, and then we each ordered the seafood rice bowls that also came with noodles. The seafood rice bowl actually turned out to be different cuts of raw sushi over white rice, which surprised us – we were both expecting a hot cooked dish! Much to our delight, we loved each and every bite. Jess and I were both a little nervous since we had absolutely no clue what the cuts of fish were, but they were all so, so good. We also enjoyed a bit of hot sake to get warmed up before heading back outside!

After lunch we decided to hop over to Tokyo Station to check out the gorgeous building and the attached hotel, and came across KITTE, which is a huge (and beautifully built) shopping mall. We discovered several cool shops like FRAY I.D. and MARcourt on the second floor, then popped downstairs at Mary’s Cafe for an espresso and bite of chocolate to pep up. After all that walking, we went back to our AirBnB to rest our feet before dinner at Kagari, a casual (but acclaimed) ramen spot walking distance from our hotel. I’ll share more on that meal and more photos from Tokyo soon! Stay tuned for more travel posts and the comprehensive city guide!
