On our second day in Tokyo, we decided to wake up early to visit Tsukiji Market. If you’ve never heard of it before, Tsukiji Market is a large wholesale fish market and tuna auction, where restaurants all around the world purchase the highest quality of seafood. While we weren’t into a 3am wake-up call to see the actual auctioning of the tuna, we did go early enough for a fresh sushi breakfast at the market!
Eating sushi for breakfast has never been something on my bucket list. To be honest, I didn’t start liking sushi until a few years ago, and didn’t like tuna AT ALL until last year. Little by little I’ve eaten more and more sushi over the years and have acquired a taste for it – now I love it! I’m still a bit hesitant and scared to try new things, because the raw fish and seafood texture sometimes still bothers me. With that said, I threw all caution to the wind on this trip! The sushi we ate for breakfast at Tsukiji Market was the best I’ve EVER had. You’ll never find a cut of tuna as fresh anywhere else in the world. While each piece we were given came over rice, you honestly don’t need it. So delicious! It was pretty chilly that morning, so I wore my softest Vince cardigan and this inexpensive blanket scarf to keep me cozy. Even though the breakfast spot was “inside” it was still open air and quite chilly. Glad I had those layers to keep me comfortable!
Since we were up so early, we decided it might be a good time to pop over to Tokyo Tower to get photos of the magnificent city views before the crowds. We got there right at 9am, and managed to snap the photos you see above. Love the pops of autumn foliage in the city! The elevator up was a bit frightening because you can see out, but once you get up to the observation deck it is enclosed and you totally feel safe! I’m terrified of heights and was able to do it, so you can too! Stay tuned for more photos and travel content – there’s so much to share with you guys!!
