Nara, Japan | The Style Scribe

Nara was our final day trip (and last full day) in Japan, so as you can maybe imagine, we were sort of getting bored with seeing temples over and over again. While they are beautiful and obviously have a lot of history, they start to all look the same after you’ve visited a bunch of them already. Fortunately, Nara had a few different things up its sleeve! One of those things is the deer park. You may remember seeing snaps from our visit? The deer are all very comfortable around humans, maybe too comfortable. If they smell any kind of food, they approach you. Just keep that in mind before you go! You can actually buy little crackers from a few vendors around the park to feed the deer if you feel so inclined. Jess and I just decided to snap a few pics of other people feeding them – I was too chicken to get that close!

Nara is a short train ride from Kyoto, so actually got to sleep in a little that morning and didn’t feel rushed at all like we did on a few of the other days. We really lucked out with the weather that day… it was absolutely beautiful! In addition to the deer park, there are several temples and shrines, along with quite a bit of shopping in town. We picked up the most delicious mini cheesecake things at a little dessert store on the way to the deer park. We loved them so much, we got a few more on the way back to the train station! Jess also picked up some matcha powder at a tea shop so she could make some for herself when she got back to Chicago! We did learn from a tea master how to make it, after all…

One of the things I was most excited to wear on my trip to Japan was this Tibi sweater. I’d gotten it a month before, but it was still too warm in Texas to sport it! I absolute love the terracotta/burnt shade of orange. It feels so fall, don’t you think? I may have gone a little overboard with the matchy-matchy look, but I just adore the sweater with my old Sergio Rossi boots. Just so ya know, this sweater is now on final sale for under $190! I’m wearing the small and it’s still really oversized, so order one size smaller than you normally would!
