As I’ve mentioned more than a dozen times already, velvet is one of fall/winter’s biggest fashion trends! You can find this luxe fabric on pretty much any item of clothing, including handbags, shoes and other accessories. While I wasn’t in the market for a velvet blazer or jacket (still love my vintage Chanel find from London!), I did want to score a few simple tops and dresses I could wear over and over again this season. Instead of going for color, I decided black would be the most versatile and useful in my wardrobe. The first item I found was this velvet cami top (I own a small), and it’s been such a pretty piece to throw on with jeans and my favorite jackets! Such a pretty staple.

The next item I found that I desperately wanted to try was this velvet and lace cami dress. Because it’s by Alice + Olivia, I was worried about the size and fit with it when I ordered, because her pieces tend to run really narrow and small on me. If you’ve got boobs or hips, definitely be prepared to size up at least one size! To give you an idea, I wear a size 27 in jeans now and a small in most sweaters and tops, and still had to order a size large in this dress. The size recommendations on Nordstrom are wayyyy off on this one. Kind of crazy, but I don’t even care because I love it so much. I’ve lost a few pounds since buying the dress, so I might have been able to get away with a medium now that it’s finally appropriate weather to wear it, but I didn’t want the dress pulling in any way around my hips or butt. It’s gotta lie flat! I’ll probably get it taken in a bit at the bust pretty soon.

Anyway, I’m OBSESSED with it! It’s too dressy for daytime wear, but you can definitely dress it down a little by pairing it with a more casual jacket or trench. I just love how effortless it is! It’s a fabulous sexy staple to have on hand for date night, a cocktail party or other nights when you want to dress up a little more. So chic!

PS – the trench I’m wearing is one I found this spring and is now sold out, but this one and this one are super similar!
