Happy Friday! Hope y’all have had a short work week if you did indeed have to go into the office. I only worked Wednesday and Thursday, so it certainly was short for me! I’m driving back up to Dallas today after a fun week in Austin. Even though the New Year isn’t until next week, I’m already well on my way with my goals and resolutions for the New Year (more on that next week)! Have you guys already figured out what you’re going to work on or try to improve in 2019?

Anyway, here’s another look from New York featuring a few new items and a few oldies but goodies. The neutral boots (Gianvito Rossi) and sweater (Leith) are both from last year, but they look gorgeous paired with these new black classic pieces! This military-style coat is a pretty great price (and currently on sale!!), although it’s not very heavy. I would not recommend it if you live somewhere extremely cold! The sweater I’m wearing with this coat happens to be very warm though, so this outfit ended up being perfect walking around New York in the 40 degree weather! It’s been a great weight for Texas winter weather too, since it hasn’t been all that cold yet. I got a size 4 in the coat and still have room to wear a pretty bulky sweater – it definitely runs large.

The other new item in this outfit is this sleek pair of coated jeans I picked up before my trip. I’ve always been a fan of leather pants and leggings, but wanted a pair that was high-waisted, look like jeans, and were long enough to tuck into my favorite ankle boots. I have a pair of leather pants that look like jeans, but unfortunately they do not meet the other criteria, so I ordered a couple pairs of coated jeans to try! This ended up being the winner and I shouldn’t have been surprised why. I have the exact same style in regular denim and they are one of my very favorites! These black coated jeans are flattering, form-fitting, and oh-so comfortable. Highly recommend! PRO TIP: to wash your coated jeans at home without ruining the sheen, turn them inside out and wash them in cold water.

Finally, I added this velvet Gucci Marmont bag to tie the whole look together. The hardware on the bag compliments the antique gold buttons on the coat, don’t you think? I’ve been loving the size of this bag – the perfect day-to-night piece. The size is awesome and the strap can be worn as a crossbody or shortened it for more of a shoulder bag look! This bag also comes in black and cobalt blue. I’ve received a few questions lately about velvet as a fabric and if I would wear it year round, so I thought I’d answer that here. I can confidently say I’d wear this bag from about mid September to mid April, at least in Texas. The color is very transitional and works with so much in my wardrobe, so as long as the temps don’t skyrocket I plan to wear it! Velvet (to me) is definitely more of a fall/winter/early spring fabric.
