NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE EARLY ACCESS // WHAT I TRIED, WHAT I BOUGHT, WHAT I LOVE!

07.12

On Tuesday I had the opportunity to visit NorthPark Center to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access! While I didn’t have access online, they invited me as a blogger to check out the sale… it was so much fun! I found even more amazing items online yesterday (they arrive Monday – will report back on those pieces!), but I feel like I did really well and snagged some great styles at the store on Tuesday.

Over the course of the next two weeks, I’m going to be sharing my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in a variety of ways! Today I am sharing my first YouTube video in ages, as well as my very first IGTV video on Instagram EVER! Thanks to having some help with my new employee I finally have time to get back into video content, and I’m so pumped! I’ll also be sharing a number of collages and outfit posts on the blog, featuring items I’ve purchased as well as items on my wish list from the #NSALE.

For the very first post though, I thought it would be most helpful to share EVERYTHING I tried on in the store on Tuesday. In this post I’ll share what worked, what didn’t, how things fit, what the fabric feels like, and all the other important things you need to know about each item I found! Early Access launches for all Nordstrom Cardmembers at 11:30am TODAY (central time!), so be sure to review this post and get all the info before making your purchase! Click here to see and shop everything included in Early Access.

NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE TRY-ON

SHOP THE OUTFIT: OLIVE TRENCH // LACE CAMI // RAW HEM SKINNY JEANS // SNAKESKIN PRINT BOOTS

trench details

This olive trench is definitely my favorite find from Early Access! It is SUPER versatile. Watch my YouTube video to see three ways to style this chic piece! TRENCH SIZING/FIT NOTES: this fits very oversized. I’m wearing a XS and it is still very roomy. The fabric is soft and as thick as the Club Monaco trenches I love so much – still lightweight, but lined and a nice topper for Texas fall weather. VERDICT: Definitely a keeper.

cami details

I’m wearing my favorite lace cami I found during last year’s NSALE, which I’m excited to report is BACK and available during this year’s sale! I bought it in both ivory and black and have worn them so, so much. Such a great price for such a useful piece! LACE CAMI SIZING/FIT NOTES: I have both in a small. For reference, I wear a 34D bra and it fits comfortably! VERDICT: This cami is a budget-friendly must-have!

jean details

I never have much luck in the jean department during the NSALE, but wanted to give some a try anyway! This pair is Rag & Bone and features a mid-rise waist, skinny leg, and slightly cropped hem. The hem itself is frayed, offering a bit of an edgy look to the otherwise clean pair of black jeans. JEAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: I wore a size 28 in these – while not uncomfortable, they were pretty tight. I might recommend sizing up! VERDICT: I have several pairs of black jeans at home, and decided that I didn’t think I’d end up wearing the mid-rise cut very much… I just prefer a high-rise waist! So it was a pass for me.

shoe details

These boots are a little crazy for me, but I LOVE THEM! As I’ve mentioned before, snakeskin prints are huge for this coming fall season – I’ve been dying to add this print to my wardrobe, and these shoes are just the trend piece to do it. They are under $100 and a flattering pointed-toe silhouette! While I mostly plan to wear them with jeans, I think they’ll look super cute with black midi skirts and LBDs this fall. BOOT SIZING/FIT NOTES: I normally wear a 9 1/2 and had to size down to a 9 in these. They run big! For the heel height, these are very comfortable too. VERDICT: Definitely the most trendy item I tried on, but I loved them too much to pass up. Sometimes you just need something wild to mix up all your best neutrals! WIN!

OUTFIT DETAILS: PLAID BLAZER // LACE CAMI // RAW HEM SKINNY JEANS // SUEDE MULES

blazer details

The two things that grabbed my attention about this blazer were the on point fall colors and the flattering length! I love how it covers my butt – it’s always an area I like to hide when I’m wearing jeans or leggings. I also love how the sleeves are pre-scrunched! That’s something I typically do with all of my blazers, so it’s nice that the work is already done for you. BLAZER SIZING/FIT NOTES: This one runs true to size! I’m wearing a small here. The fabric is heavier than the other fall blazers I tried on, which makes it feel higher quality… but it’s still pretty lightweight for Texas fall! VERDICT: I bought it. It’s a versatile work-to-weekend piece I know I’ll reach for a lot!

cami details

I’m wearing my favorite lace cami I found during last year’s NSALE, which I’m excited to report is BACK and available during this year’s sale! I bought it in both ivory and black and have worn them so, so much. Such a great price for such a useful piece! LACE CAMI SIZING/FIT NOTES: I have both in a small. For reference, I wear a 34D bra and it fits comfortably! VERDICT: This cami is a budget-friendly must-have!

jean details

The hem itself is frayed, offering a bit of an edgy look to the otherwise clean pair of black jeans. JEAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: I wore a size 28 in these – while not uncomfortable, they were pretty tight. I might recommend sizing up! VERDICT: I have several pairs of black jeans at home, and decided that I didn’t think I’d end up wearing the mid-rise cut very much… I just prefer a high-rise waist! So it was a pass for me.

shoe details

Honestly, the only reason I grabbed these mules was because I knew they’d look great with this blazer! They are REALLY comfortable though, which had me tempted to buy them for myself. SHOE SIZING/FIT NOTES: I normally wear a 9 1/2, so I got that size and these fit true to size! Very comfortable and pliable leather. VERDICT: Pass. I just don’t think I’ll wear these that much! With that said, they’re a great color and simple style. If you think they’d be useful in your own wardrobe, they’re a good budget-friendly fall shoe style!

OUTFIT DETAILS: BEIGE FUNNEL NECK SWEATER // GREY ANKLE FRAY SKINNY JEANS // POINTED TOE LOAFERS

sweater details

This sweater is HEAVEN. Truly, if you’re on the hunt for a super soft sweater this season, don’t miss this beige beauty. The funnel neckline is the ultimate form of cozy, and the cashmere fabric is the softest thing I tried on all day! It features a split down either side, and is just long enough to cover my butt. The color is absolutely beautiful in person and will be a great year-round neutral for me! SWEATER SIZING/FIT NOTES: I’m wearing a small, which is generally true to size for me – it still fits pretty loose! If you don’t have big boobs, you could probably size down if you want it to be less oversized. VERDICT: Absolutely kept this one. Highly recommend!

jean details

These charcoal skinny jeans were another denim hopeful for me! I liked the uneven hem and ankle fray detail, which added some interest to an otherwise basic style. JEAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: These jeans were a better rise/fit on me than the black ones I mentioned in the previous two outfits! The rise was slightly higher and in my opinion, the fabric is more comfortable/softer. I’m wearing a 27 here, which is true to size for me. VERDICT: While I did like the fit more, it wasn’t just right… and I didn’t feel like I’d wear this style as much as I would a blue or black jean. I didn’t keep these!

shoe details

I loved the color of these pointed-toe loafers! Such a beautiful and useful neutral for year-round wear. They are very comfortable too! SHOE SIZING/FIT NOTES: These ran big on me, so definitely size down a half size. VERDICT: While I loved the color, they sort of disappeared on my feet! I’m just too pale. But I think they’d look gorgeous on someone with olive/darker skin! Pass for me.

OUTFIT DETAILS: FAUX SUEDE MOTO JACKET // SCOOP NECK TEE // RAW HEM SKINNY JEANS // SCALLOPED FLATS

jacket details

The dark chocolate color of this faux suede jacket popped out to me as I was perusing the racks in Savvy. It’s such a beautiful color, and one I don’t have much of in my wardrobe! I thought it would be really cute to wear with all black, or style with fall florals featuring rich colors. JACKET SIZING/FIT NOTES: I’m wearing a medium here, which is true to size for me with this brand in the jacket category! I have a few jackets by this brand and they all fit great. VERDICT: I really wanted to like this jacket! The color is gorgeous, but the fabric just felt/looked cheap to me. Pass!

tee details

This scoop neck tee was one of the few basic short-sleeve tees I found while shopping the #NSALE in store. I grabbed it because I knew I needed a layer other than my cami to try on clothes with, not because I loved it. The fabric is very thin and is slub, which gives it a textured quality – it doesn’t look smooth or solid, which is not something I like out of a black tee! I also didn’t like the pocket over the boob – it just didn’t look right. TEE SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! I’m wearing a small. VERDICT: Pass. Not a fan of this style.

shoe details

The last shoe I tried at Nordstrom is this scalloped pair of black suede flats. I love the feminine and flattering look of these shoes – they actually make my big feet look pretty! SHOE SIZING/FIT NOTES: These ran a little big/wide on me! Great style for people with wider feet! VERDICT: While I really liked these, I honestly have far too many black flats in my closet. I’m more in need of other neutrals, so I decided to pass on these!

OUTFIT DETAILS: TARTAN COAT // STRIPED BOATNECK TEE // DARK WASH SKINNY JEANS // CHANEL FLATS (NOT ON SALE)

coat details

When I first saw this coat, my first thought was MEGHAN MARKLE! She wore a nearly identical style by Burberry last year – you can see that look here. It’s a great tartan print that is so pretty for winter! It’s definitely a heavy coat, so I wouldn’t be able to wear this until at least December/January here in Dallas. But, it’s a nice price point! Definitely a good dupe to recreate her royal style. COAT SIZING/FIT NOTES: This coat is very oversized. I’m wearing a small here and it’s still pretty huge! Because of that and the very thick fabric, it didn’t look very flattering on me. VERDICT: Pass. While I love to recreate Meghan’s looks, this coat just wasn’t doing it for me in the quality/fit department!

tee details

Striped t-shirts are a classic wardrobe staple you can wear year-round! Featuring a boatneck neckline and 3/4 sleeves, this would be another style I think the Duchess of Sussex would love. I have to say I didn’t love the fabric – it just wasn’t very soft! It had more of a rough/textured quality than I want in an everyday piece like that. TEE SIZING/FIT NOTES: This tee is very oversized and super boxy on the sides. It was not flattering on me! I am wearing a small here. VERDICT: Nope. It’s gotta be comfortable and flattering, and this just wasn’t either of those things!

jean details

This was the third pair of jeans I tried! These jeans are a very dark blue wash, which is ideal for fall. The fabric is very stretchy and incredibly soft, so these would be a good comfortable pair for everyday wear! The only thing I didn’t love about these was the ankles/hem on these jeans. They weren’t tailored enough for my liking – if I’m going to be buying a pair of skinny jeans, I want them skinny all the way down! JEAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: These are true to size, and very stretchy! Definitely comfortable. VERDICT: Pass. I just didn’t love the loose ankle on the pant.

OUTFIT DETAILS: GREEN HOODED JACKET // BEIGE FUNNEL NECK SWEATER // DISTRESSED SKINNY JEANS // SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS

jacket details

I saw this hooded raincoat on a rack near the tartan coat I also share in this post, and adored the deeper green hue + gold button combo! SO pretty. Also, the price was pretty amazing – at just under $100, it’s an excellent budget-friendly fall layer. This piece is definitely on the more casual side in terms of outerwear/jackets, so I feel like it would be awesome for travel – if you’re headed to Europe at all this coming season, pack this! JACKET SIZING/FIT NOTES: Fits true to size! I’m wearing a small. It’s definitely roomy enough to fit a medium-weight sweater underneath, which is definitely ideal in the fall/winter season. VERDICT: Yes! I bought it. I think it’ll be a great piece for weekends at the ranch, fall travel and errands and more this season.

jean details

Saving the best for last I guess. This was the final pair I tried on! I was a little concerned with the cropped look before I slipped them on, but when I tried them on with the suede ankle boots they looked perfect. It just comes down to footwear! They are the perfect year-round medium blue wash, and feature two distressed sections – one at the front pocket and the other at the knee of the other leg. JEAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: They were more of a mid-rise than a high-rise, but it didn’t bother me on these! I’m wearing a 27, which is true to size for this brand on me. VERDICT: These are keepers! I don’t have a pair like them, so I think they’ll be a good style to mix things up this fall.

boot details

While perusing the shoe department, these creamy camel booties caught my eye. I loved the notched topline – it reminds me of my favorite Aquazzura pumps! These boots come in black leather or a stone grey suede as well, but I thought the camel would be the most useful in my wardrobe. Love them with jeans, but think they’ll be really cute with fall floral minidresses for tailgate too! BOOT SIZING/FIT NOTES: These run big! I’m normally a 9 1/2 and took a 9 in this. They are super comfortable thanks to the low block heel – a great style for all day wear! VERDICT: Definitely got these! Such a versatile, comfortable style. Worth the investment!

OUTFIT DETAILS: KNIT COLLAR TANK // WHITE SILK SLEEVELESS BLOUSE

tank/shell details

This Vince tank was one I was excited to find! I always enjoy a good shell to wear under jackets and trenches, similar to my love of camis. This one is silky smooth and soft, and a nice high neckline for something different. The collar is actually a knit fabric, while the tank itself is silk. So comfy! TANK SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! I’m wearing a small. VERDICT: Yes! A great year-round staple.

sleeveless blouse details

This is another pretty white sleeveless blouse to consider if you’re looking for something like this! It’s more of a sophisticated, work-friendly silhouette than the tank is. High quality silk in classic white! BLOUSE SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! They only had medium and larger sizes in stock when I was shopping, and the medium was too loose. I think I’d be a small! VERDICT: No. It was too big on me in store – if it happens to be online in a small, I may give it a try! I’m not totally hooked though.

OUTFIT DETAILS: CASHMERE CARDIGAN // ANIMAL PRINT CAMI // GREY DISTRESSED HEM SKINNY JEANS // SCALLOPED FLATS

cardigan details

I found this cardigan perusing the contemporary section, near the beige sweater I mentioned earlier in this post! It’s a soft black cardigan with white specks throughout (hard to tell in the photos). The length was nice – it hit just below my butt. Not overwhelming, but not too short! The front is a draped collar look, similar to the cardigan I shared on Instastories earlier this week that I bought in the sale two years ago. CARDIGAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! I’m wearing a small. VERDICT: I really wanted to like this cardigan because it was the right length, but I just didn’t love the white specks all over it. I would have preferred solid black! Pass.

cami details

Unfortunately this cami was sold out of all the smaller sizes when I came across it at Northpark! I tried on the medium just to see, but unfortunately it was too big. I love the v-neck neckline, lightweight silk fabric and understated animal print on this cami. A super chic and easy piece to wear with trenches, cardigans, leather jackets and more! CAMI SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! VERDICT: YES! Love this print and the neutral colors in it. I’m going to try to order the small online since the medium was too big on me in store.

jean details

The last shoe I tried is this scalloped pair of black suede flats.

OUTFIT DETAILS: CHAIN TRIM STRIPED SHIRT // DISTRESSED SKINNY JEANS // SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS

shirt details

This shirt was giving me alllll the Brunello Cucinelli vibes! I love the beige and white stripes, and the subtle but glam chain trim on the pocket and collar! A gorgeous elevated option for the office or wherever else. A year-round staple, that’s for sure! It’s a crisp shirt, and feels very high-quality. SHIRT SIZING/FIT NOTES: I’m wearing a 6 here, which is true to size for me with button-down shirts (I’m busty)! VERDICT: While it wasn’t Brunello Cucinelli pricing, it was higher than most of the pieces I tried on. Decided to pass for now, but I might change my mind as the sale goes on!

jean details

Saving the best for last I guess. This was the final pair I tried on! I was a little concerned with the cropped look before I slipped them on, but when I tried them on with the suede ankle boots they looked perfect. It just comes down to footwear! They are the perfect year-round medium blue wash, and feature two distressed sections – one at the front pocket and the other at the knee of the other leg. OUTFIT DETAILS: NAVY WRAP DRESS (LEFT) // NAVY WRAP DRESS (RIGHT) // TARTAN COAT // CHANEL FLATS

wrap dress details (left)

The first wrap dress I tried was this J.Crew style. I am undecided how I feel about the fabric – it was really slick, which felt kind of cheap to me, but I thought it looked really pretty in person! The only major issue I found with this dress was that it needed some kind of button or hook & eye closure at the bust – the ladies kept busting out of it on one side or the other when I moved! DRESS SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! If you’re busty though, you may have an issue with the top staying put. VERDICT: Pass. I didn’t love it enough to get a closure sewn into the top.

wrap dress details (right)

As you can see, I tried on two navy wrap dresses! This one is by a brand I’ve been wearing a bunch recently, so I had high hopes for it. The fabric was lightweight and flowy, ideal for Texas fall. DRESS SIZING/FIT NOTES: While it was true to size, the fit was just off. One side kept poofing out on the bust, and it just wasn’t flattering. VERDICT: Pass! It’ll be pretty if you can make the top fit you better than I could though.

OUTFIT DETAILS: BUTTON-FRONT CARDIGAN // LACE CAMI // SKINNY JEANS (NOT ON SALE) // SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS

cardigan details

Is it wrong to say I liked the grandpa look of this button-front cardigan? I just though the oversized buttons were really cute! The fabric is a little thinner than I’d normally like a cardigan to be, but if you run hot this may be just the piece for you. With that said, it is very soft! The length is also nice – cuts just under my butt! The color is a darker ivory/light beige. CARDIGAN SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! Pretty roomy fit, and not too tight around the saddlebags/hips. VERDICT: No. I actually did buy this and bring it home, but now that I have it in my closet I realized I don’t love it as much as I thought/don’t have enough to pair it with! I’ll be returning ASAP.

cami details

I’m wearing my favorite lace cami I found during last year’s NSALE, which I’m excited to report is BACK and available during this year’s sale! I bought it in both ivory and black and have worn them so, so much. Such a great price for such a useful piece! LACE CAMI SIZING/FIT NOTES: I have both in a small. For reference, I wear a 34D bra and it fits comfortably! VERDICT: This cami is a budget-friendly must-have!

boot details

While perusing the shoe department at Nordstrom, these creamy camel booties caught my eye. I loved the notched topline – it reminds me of my favorite Aquazzura pumps! They are super comfortable thanks to the low block heel – a great style for all day wear! VERDICT: Definitely got these! Such a versatile, comfortable style. Worth the investment!

OUTFIT DETAILS: PLAID BLAZER // SCOOP NECK TEE // DARK WASH SKINNY JEANS // POINTED TOE LOAFERS

blazer details

It’s a versatile work-to-weekend piece I know I’ll reach for a lot!

Not a fan of this style.

jean details

This was the third pair of jeans I tried! They are a very dark blue wash, which is ideal for fall. I just didn’t love the loose ankle on the pant.

shoe details

I loved the color of these pointed-toe loafers! Such a beautiful and useful neutral for year-round wear. They are very comfortable too! SHOE SIZING/FIT NOTES: These ran big on me, so definitely size down a half size. VERDICT: While I loved the color, they sort of disappeared on my feet! I’m just too pale. But I think they’d look gorgeous on someone with olive/darker skin! Pass for me.

OUTFIT DETAILS: FAUX SUEDE MOTO JACKET // SILK GRID BLOUSE // SKINNY JEANS (NOT ON SALE)

blouse details

The neutral color combo and length of this top are what made me want to try it on! It really is so pretty and elegant in person. I think it would look amazing tucked into an ivory skirt or camel trousers this fall! BLOUSE SIZING/FIT NOTES: True to size! The cut is a little wide, which is nice since it’s such a thin fabric – you don’t want that hugging your every curve! VERDICT: Due to the price, I passed initially. I’m keeping my eye on it though in case I change my mind!

jacket details

Pass! I saw online that this same color comes in a faux leather jacket that I might try though…

OUTFIT DETAILS: BEIGE FUNNEL NECK SWEATER // RAW HEM SKINNY JEANS // SNAKESKIN PRINT BOOTS

sweater details

This sweater is HEAVEN. Truly, if you’re on the hunt for a super soft sweater this season, don’t miss this beige beauty. jean details

WIN!

OUTFIT DETAILS: OLIVE TRENCH // STRIPED TEE // RAW HEM SKINNY JEANS // SCALLOPED FLATS

trench details

This olive trench is definitely my favorite find from Early Access! It is SUPER versatile. Watch my YouTube video to see three ways to style this chic piece! TRENCH SIZING/FIT NOTES: this fits very oversized. I’m wearing a XS and it is still very roomy. The fabric is soft and as thick as the Club Monaco trenches I love so much – still lightweight, but lined and a nice topper for Texas fall weather. VERDICT: Definitely a keeper.

tee details

The distressed stripes in black and cream are what first grabbed my attention, but when I felt this tee I knew I was going to love it. The one thing I wasn’t sure about was the asymmetrical hem… After trying it on, I definitely don’t like the tee untucked in the front! Tucked in it looks amazing. TEE SIZING/FIT NOTES: I’m wearing a small, which is my usual size! The fabric is very soft and not thin, which I appreciate. VERDICT: This color combo is actually kind of hard to find in a good tee style, so I had to have it!

jean details

I never have much luck in the jean department during the NSALE, but wanted to give some a try anyway! This pair is Rag & Bone and features a mid-rise waist, skinny leg, and slightly cropped hem. The hem itself is frayed, offering a bit of an edgy look to the otherwise clean pair of black jeans. shoe details

The last shoe I tried on at Nordstrom is this scalloped pair of black suede flats.
