WHAT I WORE TO MY NYC MEET-UP

11.20

On Saturday I hosted my first ever meet-up with some readers in New York City! It was so much fun getting to meet and hang out with people who have followed me for awhile. They were all so thoughtful, smart and funny! In addition to getting to know some great gals, I definitely learned a lot from hosting this event! The first thing I learned is to not ever rely on an Instagram poll for an event again! I had been stressing about finding a venue that would fit a bunch of people, because I had so many vote saying they were planning to attend… but naturally only a fraction of those who voted showed up. While the total number was way less than I expected, I think it worked out perfectly based on the space we were in – plus, I got to chat with each reader individually and really get to know them!

The very best part about this meet-up for me was seeing them all exchange numbers to get together again! One of the things I love most about this blog is the community – clearly I’ve benefited from it, but I would really like to y’all benefit from it too! While I may take a different approach to meet-ups going forward, I will definitely keep doing them! I’d considered doing on in Austin this holiday season, with so much going on I’m going to wait on that. The next one I’m going to do is in Chicago in January! I’ll be sure to share more details on that once I figure it out…

In the meantime, let’s chat about the outfit I wore to my NYC meet-up! I generally avoid sweater dresses, as they tend to be shorter or fit in a straighter silhouette – that kind of look never flatters my figure! I was so thrilled to see this midi style appear on Nordstrom right before my trip, and thought it would be such a great staple for winter wear. It is the coziest cashmere, and features long sleeves, a mock neckline, and a fit-and-flare waist. While it looks great on its own, I think adding a belt really takes the look up a notch. I’ll be sharing another way to style it in a couple weeks, so stay tuned for that!

This coat is a piece I actually picked up two years ago, but it’s still available in sizes XXS/XS/S here, and is also available for rent on Rent The Runway! You’ve seen me style it before here – I love that there are three great ways to wear it: over the shoulders, fully on, or as a cape when you open up the pockets. Scroll down for sizing notes on the pieces I’m wearing!

SIZING NOTES: I’m wearing a small in the coat and the sweater dress! Coat is more oversized, so definitely size down. Sweater dress fits perfectly! Fitted up top, loose in the hips. I’m also wearing a small in the belt.
