LIVING & DINING ROOM REVEAL

03.06

Last week I finally shared my master bathroom reveal, so this week I’m sharing a different part of my house I’ve also never fully shared on here: my living/dining room! With putting my house on the market and keeping it spotless for showings, my house has NEVER looked this good. The perfect time to shoot it, wouldn’t you say?!

The first piece I bought for my house was actually my living room rug. This is the only room where I started the design process from the ground up, and believe it or not, it’s my favorite space in the house! Starting with the rug gave me a good starting point for a color scheme. Once I had the rug, finding the right fabrics for the other pieces in the room was so easy! Finding the right rug is pretty tricky – in my master bedroom, for example, I decided on my headboard fabric first which made finding a rug to match difficult. Because the headboard fabric was so unique in color, it took forever! Going forward, I’m going to start with the rug when designing a new space.

Both my sofa and living room chairs were custom made, as were the pillows on my couch. They’re BEAUTIFUL and incredibly soft and comfortable too. My drapes were also custom made and hung with this pretty acrylic + gold hardware. It adds a fresh, youthful touch to the space! My favorite piece in the room is my Eloquence dresser. It’s a piece I plan on keeping forever and makes me happy every time I look at it. It features grey, ivory and gold, so I know it’ll be useful in pretty much any space I might have in the future! While it looks fabulous as an anchor for my living space, I could definitely see it in my bedroom eventually! So elegant and timeless. The mirror you see hanging above the dresser is an antique my mom found in New Orleans! It’s another piece I know I’ll use for the rest of my life! Such a classic. I love the simplicity of the modern sconces next to such an old world mirror too.

My dining room table was a find from One Kings Lane. There’s an unfortunate water stain on it, and due to it being such a large size I don’t think it’ll work in any of the Chicago apartments I’ve been looking at. All it needs is to be re-sanded and stained – such a pretty piece! I’ll plan to sell it before I move, so if you’re interested and in Dallas keep an eye on my InstaStories! The dining chairs are an antique set my mom and sister found at the Round Top Antique Fair, which I then recovered with a fabric more modern and cohesive with my living space (since they’re open and connected). Even though I’m getting rid of my big dining table, I’ll be keeping these chairs. I’ll likely get a smaller round dining table in Chicago and use four of the chairs there. I’ll keep the other two chairs as desk chairs or extras for entertaining!

The triptych on the wall behind my dining table is by the talented artist, Jenn Thatcher! She also painted this piece that hangs in my office. Like the one in my office, Jenn came by to look at the space and chat through what I was looking for. Jenn’s website and Instagram gave me lots of good inspo to pull from, and I shared which of her works were my favorites! Since the wall behind the dining table is so large, she and I agreed a triptych would be a great way to take up the space and another nice anchor for that side of the room. She took a couple of my living/dining room fabrics as inspo and to keep the colors cohesive (I love to match!)! I’m so thrilled with how these pieces turned out. While I may not have space in my dining room for these at my Chicago apartment, I’m planning to hang them behind my couch! So glad I went with a similar color scheme so it’ll all flow into my next home.

The chest you see below is actually a piece from my mom’s old townhome in Dallas. I also bought a gold etagere for additional storage, but don’t think I’m going to keep either of those items when I move to Chicago. The art on the chest is a print my sister made in college! It’s one of my favorite pieces of hers, and I plan to take it with me to Chicago (as long as she’ll let me). My dining room rug was gifted by Annie Selke – it is the most beautiful jute and SO soft on your feet! I’ll definitely be taking this rug with me to Chicago as it is a smaller size (8×10). Thinking I’ll use it in my guest room/office!
