SPRING/SUMMER TRY-ON HAUL

03.31

This morning I shared a very big video try-on featuring a bunch of items I ordered recently! When I recorded these videos, I hadn’t tried on much of it yet – naturally, I’m returning most of it… but I did find some cute, key pieces for the season! Below are photos, little reviews and links to everything featured, but be sure to watch my IGTV video for a closer look at each piece!

This dress reminded me of both Gal Meets Glam dresses I own and love, so I thought I’d give it a try! While I love the print and the price point, the skirt lining is fitted AND fully attached to the outer layer. While that likely won’t be an issue for some people, as someone with hips, the fabric pulls and you can see that tugging in the front of the dress on me (below the belt on the button line). It’s a little disappointing, as this dress is fitted at the waist and appears to be loose at the hips, but it simply is not on the inside! With that said, it’s a super cute find for summer if you have a straighter figure. The button front is fully closed with a zipper in the back, so you won’t deal with any gaping areas! I also love that it has pockets! I’m wearing a 6 here, which is true to size for me right now.

I almost didn’t order this dress because I was so sure I was going to be disappointed… boy was I wrong! The embroidery is SO pretty in person! I think the cut is super flattering too. I’m busty (especially right now with pandemic weight gain), so it’s a little snug in that area, but otherwise fits like a dream! I’m planning to keep it, with the expectation that I will in fact lose a few pounds thanks to the addition of BBG into my workout routine again – I’m already seeing a difference after 4 weeks!! Anywho, I’m wearing a 6 in this dress. It’s not super long – hits me right at the ankle, so I’ll probably only wear it with flat sandals. I’m not used to wearing heels these days, so that suits me just fine!

I also ordered the dress in the other color combo, red + green! I don’t love this one as much, because the colors are quite a bit more saturated and darker. It just doesn’t look as nice to me? Fit is the exact same, of course. Wearing a 6! I’ll be returning the red + green and keeping the yellow + green for a softer look.

This multi-color striped dress/coverup is super soft and lightweight! The perfect easy dress for hot summer days. I ordered the medium which is frankly too big – there’s too much fabric on the sides and in the back (watch the video to see). Love that it has pockets and a tie belted waist! The open work trim on the skirt is super pretty too. I may order the size down to see if that works better! PS: lemlem is a Black-owned brand with a ton of other amazing coverups and swimwear you need to check out!

This dress may be my favorite of the bunch! Such fun pops of color and interesting details. The multi-color, scalloped tie straps, the ric rac trim… can’t get enough of it! It doesn’t have pockets which is a bummer, but I think it’s pretty perfect otherwise. I’m wearing a medium here and it is pretty fitted, so I’d suggest sizing down! So, so cute though. It’s nearly sold out, so check out the brand’s other darling and colorful pieces here!

The next two dresses are amazing for everyday wear this season! Super roomy, breezy and comfortable. The midi dress here features a smocked panel in the back, tie straps and pockets! It runs big – I’m wearing a medium here and would need to swap for a small if I were going to keep. While I think it’s cute, I don’t think I need it! The background is sort of a stone grey, with the print featuring blues, greens and yellows. This dress is under $100!

This is the other comfy, everyday dress I mentioned! It’s a tiered style, so it fits like a tent. The ideal situation for days when it is SO hot out you don’t want any fabric touching you! Love the ruffled high neckline, the fresh spring print and flutter sleeves too. I’m wearing a 6 here, but need to swap for the 4 – size down! This dress looks great with sneakers, sandals, espadrilles, etc.

I’m not often drawn to yellow, but I couldn’t resist this silhouette! An off-the-shoulder neckline is my favorite. It’s just something I feel confident in! The ruffle overlay is super flattering too, as it minimizes the bust and hides that pesky armpit area. I love that this dress features a waist-cinching belt too! Unfortunately this dress doesn’t have pockets (le sigh), and it’s also not lined… but it’s super thick and isn’t at all see through. I may still wear it with a mini slip to avoid sweaty situations though! I’m wearing a medium here and it fits perfectly.

I absolutely love this new print from J.Crew! I actually ordered a swimsuit and face mask in this print too. Such pretty colors! The main issues I have with this skirt are the random belt loops (who wears a thin belt with a skirt like this?!), and the length. I prefer skirts to hit me just above the knee or below the calf. It’s better when the hem hits at a more slender part of your leg for an overall elongating look! I’m wearing an 8 in this skirt, so size up – I’d say it runs a tad small. Haven’t decided whether I’m keeping this or not – I feel like it’s not the best fit, but it would be fun to have with the matching swimsuit + mask!

I actually bought this coverup + matching suit a few weeks ago, and I am obsessed! I didn’t do the best job of steaming this yesterday, so apologies for it looking a bit disheveled. I SWEAR it’s cute in real life! The perfectly spicy orange-red hue is what snagged me from the get go. People are always telling me I need to wear this color more, and I’m trying! I love the chic sleeveless, shirtdress silhouette, along with the trench overlay in the back, pockets and belted waist. The hem comes up pretty high on the sides, so it won’t be doing double duty as an everyday dress… but I think it looks stellar with the matching swimsuit for a fabulous pool- or beach-side look! This set is on the more expensive side… PS: Sizing is insanely off. I took an XL in the coverup because it is such a straight cut! I couldn’t button a single button on the medium I had originally ordered. Definitely size up!!!

Here’s another comfy tent dress for you! This tunic style dress is an effortless choice for everyday wear. It’s especially great right now during this in between weather time! I though the print was super cool and different, and the beaded tassels are a fun touch. I’m wearing a small here and it still fits very loose, so definitely size down!

I had really high hopes for this dress, but it actually misses the mark in person. The colors are a lot darker than they appear on the website! The large stripes look great on the skirt, but appear to make my large bust look even larger. I also felt like the off-the-shoulder neckline wasn’t super comfortable – it wouldn’t stay in place very well! With that said, it is a SUPER fun piece. I think it would probably look better on someone with less boobage, to be honest. Final note: it is unlined and the fabric is pretty thin. I think it would probably be a sweaty disaster on a hot day/night during the Texas summer!

I’m normally not a jumpsuit person, but I actually love this!! It’s super comfortable and the color is on point for the season. The beige buttons make it easy to style with all of my favorite beige shoes and bags too! I sized up to a large since I’m tall and need all the torso space + longest inseam available… and it works! The belted waist is the cherry on top. Highly recommend and think it would look great with sneakers too! PS: it’s under $100!

I also tried this Zimmermann romper, but feel it is simply too short on me. I’m wearing a 3 because the site I ordered from was out of the 2! I think the top section is a bit too big in the 3 for me, but I don’t know if I could have gone with a 2 due to the short torso anyway. I LOVE the loose fitting shorts though – such a great detail for those of us with a little saddlebag action! If you’re on the shorter side, definitely give this romper a try. Very comfortable!

I rarely have luck with shorter MANGO pieces, and this dress is just another example of that. They’re just cut for shorter people! The puffed sleeves look super cute on the website, but it just looked lumpy in person. Not my favorite look! It is a budget-friendly buy though, if you’re looking for that. I’m wearing a 6 here – aside from it being too short, it fits true to size!

Last but not least is this square neck midi dress. I definitely prefer it to the shorter style I showed you before, but still not 100% in love with it. I do love the square neckline, but the bust part feels like it comes up a bit too high? Feels a little too modest or something. The asymmetrical stitching on the skirt also threw me off, but it isn’t terrible. Just not something I expected! This dress is under $100 and true to size – I’m wearing a 6!
